Privacy Policy

Fix My English · Last updated: 2 September 2026

In short: there is no account, and we keep nothing you say. The app shows banner adverts, and those adverts are not personalised — we do not track you across apps or websites. The app is not offline: your speech is transcribed by Apple, and the resulting text is translated by Google’s Gemini AI — and the app asks your permission before it sends anything. This page says exactly what goes where.

What the app does

You speak, and the app either translates what you said into another language or says it back more naturally in the same language. It then reads the result aloud.

What leaves your device

  1. Your speech goes to Apple. Transcription is performed by the speech recognition built into iOS. That service may send audio to Apple’s servers rather than processing it entirely on your device. We never receive audio — it does not pass through our servers at any point. Apple’s handling of it is governed by Apple’s own privacy policy. (On other platforms, the equivalent system service does the same job.)
  2. The transcribed text goes to our server, and on to Google. The text is sent to our server, which adds the translation instructions and forwards it to Google’s Gemini API. The result comes back the same way. We use Gemini on a paid plan, under which Google states that prompts and responses are not used to improve Google’s products.
  3. Advert requests go to Google’s AdMob. The app shows banner adverts, supplied by Google. To fetch one, the AdMob software in the app sends Google a device identifier along with basic technical information about the request. It never receives anything you said — your speech and its translation are not part of an advert request and are never shared with advertisers.

The adverts are not personalised

We ask Google for non-personalised adverts only. That means the identifier is used to limit how often you are shown the same banner, and not to build a profile of you or to target adverts based on your interests. The app therefore does not ask for permission to track you, because it does not track you: it never links what you do here with data from other companies, and it never shares anything with data brokers.

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, the app shows you a consent screen from Google the first time you open it. That screen is about whether information may be stored on and read from your device at all — not about advert targeting, which we do not do either way.

Google’s own handling of advert requests is governed by Google’s privacy policy.

Apart from the three things above, nothing is sent anywhere. There is no analytics SDK and no crash reporting service in the app.

How we collect it, and your permission

The app collects nothing in the background. It collects only when you press Start and speak: the microphone opens, the operating system’s speech recogniser turns your speech into text, and that text — and nothing else — is what the app sends. There is no other collection path: no forms, no contacts, no location, no analytics, no crash reporting, and no account.

Before the app sends anything for translation, it asks you. The first time you open it, a screen names what is sent (the text of the sentence you speak, plus the languages and tone you chose), who receives it (our server, and then Google’s Gemini AI), what is not sent (your audio), and that nothing is stored. Nothing leaves your device until you agree.

You can withdraw that agreement at any time on the Settings screen. Translation then stops until you agree again; your saved history is untouched.

The third parties, and the protection they provide

Data is shared with three services only, each for the single purpose named above:

We have reviewed the published commitments of each of these services and consider them to provide protection equal to that described in this policy for the data we send them: it is used only to perform the task we ask for, it is not sold, and it is not used to build a profile of you. We share data with no one else — no analytics provider, no data broker, no advertiser.

What we store

Nothing. Our server has no database and no user accounts. Your text is held in memory only for as long as it takes to answer the request, and is then discarded.

Our server writes an operational log line for each request. It contains the time, how long the request took, which model answered, the language pair, and the tone setting. It does not contain what you said or what was returned.

Abuse prevention

Our server is open to the internet, so to stop automated abuse we keep a short-lived count of recent requests per network address, in memory only. That count disappears when the server restarts. Network addresses are never written to our logs or stored anywhere; when a request is blocked, the log records only a one-way fingerprint, which cannot be turned back into an address.

What stays on your device

Your history and your settings are saved only on your device, using the operating system’s ordinary app storage. They are never uploaded. You can clear your history from the Settings screen at any time, and deleting the app removes everything.

Children
